Combined Deep and Superficial Vein Disease: Best Practices

Dr Van Rijn finished writing and defending her thesis Dissecting the genetics of stroke in 2007. After that she has done research in the field of both aortic and venous disease with publications in peer-reviewed journals and has written several book chapters on these subjects. Dr Van Rijn organizes the conference Intoveins, which is held every other year in Rotterdam. She is the leading researcher in multiple ongoing studies at her department. Dr Van Rijn is part of the editorial board of The European Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery and the Journal of Vascular and Endovascular Review. Dr Van Rijn was a member of the writing committee of the updated ESVS guidelines on chronic venous disease which was published in January 2022 and is the co-author and co-editor of the Dutch textbook Phlebology.

Dr Erin Murphy is a Venous Vascular Surgeon at the Rane Center in Jackson, MS. She is also Director of the Venous and Lymphatic Institute at the Sanger Heart and Vascular Institute at Carolinas Healthcare System in Charlotte, NC. 

Dr Murphy graduated with MD from Georgetown University Medical School in 2005. She completed her general surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. She also completed a 1-year research fellowship in vascular surgery at Stanford University followed by a vascular surgery fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. She is board certified in both general and vascular surgery.

Dr Emma Wilton is a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.

Dr Wilton completed her medical training at the University of Cambridge in 2000. She was awarded her Certificate of Completion of Training in General and Vascular Surgery in November 2016 following higher surgical training in the Oxford/Thames Valley Deanery. This also included a year as an Endovascular Fellow at St George’s Hospital and St Thomas’ Hospital, London. 

Following completion of higher surgical training she undertook a further clinical fellowship at St Thomas’ Hospital, where she developed a specialist interest in the management and intervention of aortic disease, including complex aortic pathology, using both open and endovascular operative techniques. She also developed a specialist interest in the management and intervention of deep venous disease.
